Tissamaharama Rajamaha Viharaya

This is located in Tissamaharama in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. This temple was built by KingKavanthissa of Ruhuna in the 2 nd century BC. This sacred ground of Tissamaharama has been touched by the blessed feet of Lord Buddha.
The dagaba that is constructed within the premises of the Tissamaharama Raja Maha Viharaya is one of the largest Dagaba to be built in Sri Lanka. It has been designed in a bulbous shape.

Sandagiri Viharaya

It has been revealed through various explorations that the Ruhuna region has been inhabited by humans from prehistoric times. According to Genealogy, the Ruhuna region has been an important settlement in Sri Lanka from the 6 th Century BC. The Dathu Vanshya states that Lord Buddha visited Tissamaharama on his third Lankan Journey. The Bodivansha states that King Paethis II planted a branch of the Sri Maha Bodhi Dethis Palaruha Bodhi at Tisamaharama.

Tissa Weva

Tissa weva is a lake in the Tissamharama region of Sri Lanka. It is believed to have been built by King Mahanaga who ruled in the Ruhuna region in the 3 rd century. It was later reconstructed in 1871 and now spans over an area of about 652 acres. The Tissa weva which provides water for paddy cultivation done in many large paddy fields in the area is a valuable resource for the people of Tissamaharama. The banks of the Tissa weva have been landscaped beautifully and the big trees on it add much grandeur to the lake. The often crowded Tissa weva is a famous place for bathing.

Kirinda Viharaya

The Kirinda Rajamaha Viharaya is a historic temple that is situated on the peak of a rocky hill that is visible to the Southern shores of the Sri Lanka. It provides a beautiful view of the beach, ocean, sand, hills, the Kirinda Harbour and much more.
