Under this, public market facilities will be provided for the sale of agricultural products of the local farmers and food crops necessary for people’s life.
For this purpose, Tissamaharama, Debarawewa and Pannagamuwa markets are being maintained, Debarawewa market has been developed under the aid of Puraneguma with stalls for businessmen involved in trade, and Pannagamuwa Public Market, which was built by the Southern Province Rural Economic Promotion Project, has been given crown development allocations. Work is being done to modernize it and hand it over to the people. The new two-storied Tissamaharama shopping complex is also a boon for the trading community.
The maintenance of public buildings owned by the council and street lighting works are also carried out under this program under public utility services.
The main income here is shop rent and land tax. These revenues will be used for the maintenance and improvement of the relevant markets for the benefit of the people.
